Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
